Canon to boost camera sales

Canon India Private Limited will go for expansion of its distribution network as part of its strategy to boost camera sales.

Mr Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president of Canon pointed out that the Onam festival in Kerala will set the ball rolling for the company’s business plans this season and the year going forward.

Canon India has closed its first half yearly performance with nineteen per cent growth over the same period last year. The camera products division has registered a growth of over 27 % in the first six months of the year. The company has a strong presence in Kerala and aims to capture thirty per cent of the market share during the Onam season, Mr Bharadwaj said.

The company has put a timeframe for penetrating 500 towns in the country during this fiscal. It also plans an investment of over rupees twenty crores during the second half of the year to achieve a total turnover of rupees eight hundred crores, Mr Bharadwaj said.

The company has come out with strategic pricing of the cameras for the festive season , the prices ranging from Rs.7995 to Rs.29,995 for various models. Canon hopes to sell rupees six crores worth of cameras during the months of August and September in Kerala . In the next couple of weeks, Canon is to launch six new models in the national market, he added.
