Kerala to amend EFL Act

Kerala government on Wednesday decided to amend the Ecologically Fragile Land Act 2003 to give protection to small farmers in areas near forests.

The Government decided to ask the Governor to promulgate an ordinance in this regard. Chief Minister V S Achuthanadan told reporters that as per the new amendement, five acres of land would be exempted from the purview of the provisions of the act.

He said the decision was taken after considering a large number of complaints received from small farmers that they were facing lot of problems due to some provisions of the act.
